Ordinary Witness

Most of our lives will never make the news. They won’t even make someone’s highlight reel, for that matter, because life unfolds slowly and steadily with meaningful but surprising moments that happen in the middle of a Tuesday, in a waiting room, at the kitchen table, or on a sidewalk. And then they’re gone.

Ordinary Witness is the place I write these stories down before they disappear.

This is a micro story space rooted in creative nonfiction. Each story is written close to the heart, and somewhere between memory and imagination. Some of what you read here happened, and some are shaped by what I observed, overheard, or could not stop thinking about.

But all of them are true in the way stories are true: not in the minutia of fact, but in their feeling.

The most meaningful parts of our lives happen in the small moments. They deserve the same attention we give the big ones. But they require a slower kind of looking.

If you’re someone who’s ever watched a stranger from across a room and wondered about their life, this space is for you.

If you often ponder the secret of human nature, you’re in the right place.

If you believe that a single moment told honestly can impact someone’s life, then please, pull up a seat.

A new story lands every week.
